The call is now closed. Thank you for making this film a reality!
THE WAR ON YOUR PHONE
You are a refugee. You fled to Europe. You are safe and you try to build a new life. However, your “old” life is still present through your mobile phone: you constantly receive news from your home country. Your family or friends text, call, skype or send you videos. You feel like a news agency getting information about what it means to live in Aleppo or Damascus, or under ISIS.
We want your videos to be seen and your information to be heard. We want it to become public. We want to create a documentary with you, as well as a web project: “The war on my phone”.
WHY THE WAR ON MY PHONE
People in Europe get a lot of information about the situation in Syria through news – but this information is impersonal. You could help us give the war a face: when bombs fall in Aleppo, they may hit your uncle’s house . Maybe your sister is still in Idlib, not knowing how to get out of there. With your help, the war will cease to be only another war for European audiences. It will be recognized as the humanitarian disaster it is, affecting individuals like you and me with their very own stories.
WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR
We are looking for you: you fled to Europe, but there are still family members or friends in your country who call you, who send you messages, who capture their daily lives with their mobile phones or small cameras and send these videos to you over a period of months: like a video diary.
We do not want people to put themselves in danger because of filming. We would rather use what they film anyway. Their material should be relevant enough to give us an insight into the different situations and living conditions in Syria.
You should be able to explain the videos and the messages and make them understandable for the people in Europe.
We also want to get to know you a little bit; this is the reason why we would like to film you: where and how you live, while you are skyping or calling.
WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO THE MATERIAL
The videos and messages will be part of the documentary film “The war on my phone” as well as an online project, where people will be able to see relevant content of other’s mobile phones over a period of some months.
WHO WE ARE
Berlin Producers is a Berlinbased film production company. In 2015 and 2016 we realized the documentary film #MyEscape: we edited videos filmed by refugees on their escape journeys to Europe and asked them to comment on their material.
